FARMINGTON - Davis County commissioners voted Tuesday to float bonds so they can expand the Davis Conference Center and hopefully double the $16 million the Layton facility brings in annually.
The roughly $9 million in bonding would be paid back with hotel-tax collections. The rate would be bumped up by 1.25 percent, to 4.25 percent. The action is the next step in a project that would add about 30,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space to the already-popular center.
According to a recent feasibility study conducted by a Minneapolis consultant, the center is operating at near capacity, hosting more than 700 events in 2005.
The study also concluded the county and Layton facility lost out on "19,000 hotel room nights and 26,600 attendees, with an economic impact of nearly $5 million.
