On a voice vote Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation that would deed 100 acres of federally owned land to Park City. Located between Prospector Square and Deer Valley, the acreage is composed of the 88.5-acre Gambel Oak parcel and the White Acre piece of 20 acres. The measure was sponsored by Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah. If passed by the Senate, it would transfer the land from the Bureau of Land Management to Park City as permanent open space. "This is a great step. We really appreciate Congressman Bishop's efforts," said Park City Mayor Dana Williams. "They've been working on this for almost three years." Using funding from an open-space bond, Park City already had purchased the 100-acre Hope parcel that sits adjacent to Gambel Oak. "This gives us 200 acres of contiguous open space in the middle of the city," the mayor said. "This is great." - Christopher Smart
