Democrat Christian Burridge kicked off his campaign Thursday to unseat five-term Republican Chris Cannon in the 3rd Congressional District, pledging that he will focus on the public's business full-time if elected.

"Cannon has all kinds of business interests he's been attending to," said Burridge, a Brigham Young University-trained lawyer. "He's distracted. He's the least productive member of Utah's delegation."

Cannon defeated Repub- lican opponent John Jacob in a primary Tuesday that was almost entirely centered on immigration reform.

Burridge says his campaign will focus on Cannon's effectiveness. Utahns want a representative who is not a "rubber stamp" for Republican leadership, he said.

If elected, Burridge said his voting would be similar to Rep. Jim Matheson. "I will vote with the president if it makes sense for my constituents."
