The Internet-based Western Governors University (WGU) has scholarships for Utah teachers who want to earn master's degrees online while continuing to teach. The scholarships - up to $4,000 - are available for certified K-12 teachers pursuing master of education degrees, master of arts in mathematics education or master of science education, according to Gwen Castaldi, WGU's director of public relations. Teachers should submit applications by July 15. WGU classes begin on the first day of every month. WGU helps teachers with advanced degrees and endorsement programs. Due to new federal mandates, many teachers want to further their education to meet instructional standards, Castaldi said. Information and applications are available at http://www.wgu.edu/utsmay or by contacting Castaldi at 801-290-3600. - Shinika A. Sykes
