PARK CITY - Rob Weyher, chairman of the Summit County Democratic Party, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of drunken driving, assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, disorderly conduct and speeding. All of the charges are misdemeanors and stem from an April 28 incident near Kimball Junction. Weyher's attorney, Stephanie Matsumura, declined comment Tuesday after 3rd District Judge Bruce Lubeck set a June 27 pretrial conference for 9 a.m. Earlier, however, another Weyher attorney, Joe Tesch, called the Democratic Party boss's arrest a "misunderstanding" and said his client's innocence would emerge. Weyher was arrested during a routine traffic stop when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper smelled alcohol on his breath, according to UHP Lt. Doug McCleve. After some field-sobriety tests, Weyher became "combative," McCleve said. - Christopher Smart
