Robert D. Kaplan - who advocated the invasion of Iraq but warned against "any evangelical lust to implement democracy overnight in a country with no tradition of it" - will be the guest speaker at the Salt Lake Military Salute, to be held June 3 at the Grand America Hotel.
Reservists from the National Guard, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force will be honored at the ceremony, the seventh annual to be hosted by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Kaplan, who has traveled extensively in Iraq and among soldiers in dozens of other military conflicts, will speak about the global war on terror in an address promising "The Ground Level Truth, and the Ground Level Future."
The cost to reserve a table of 10 is $600. Individual seats are available for $60, or $50 per seat for members of the military. For more information, visit http://www.saltlakechamber.org, call 801-328-5053 or e-mail military@saltlakechamber.org.
