Mixed-use developments in Provo and American Fork, canyon preservation in Draper and the revitalization of Magna's Main Street are just a few of the recipients of the Envision Utah Governor's Quality Growth Awards.

The awards, from Envision Utah and the Governor's Quality Growth Commission, were to be handed out this morning to honor environmentally sound developments that are economically successful.

Provo's Wells Fargo Center received one of six merit awards for a 108,000-square-foot downtown building that mixes government, medical and business offices with 24 condos and a dance club.

Draper City received an award for the preservation of Corner Canyon, made possible by a 2004 vote to borrow $7 million to protect the watershed from impending construction projects. The total project cost $13 million.

Magna took an award of excellence for breathing new life into the stale Main Street. Zoning changes allowed for second floor housing and new wider sidewalks encourage more people to walk the community center.

Seven other projects also received honors.
