3 veteran judges plan to retire from bench

At least three veteran judges sitting in Salt Lake City's Matheson courthouse have announced plans to retire in 2006.

Court administrators say 3rd District judges J. Dennis Frederick, Timothy R. Hanson and Juvenile Court Judge Robert S. Yeates will retire at the end of December. A fourth judge is also consisdering retirement.

Frederick and Hanson were appointed to the bench in October 1982 by Gov. Scott M. Matheson. Frederick graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1966 and was in private practice prior to his appointment. Hanson graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1970 and was also in private practice.

Gov. Mike Leavitt appointed Yeates in November 1995. Yeates was in private practice and served as a division chief with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office. He earned his degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1980.
