PROVO - The Provo Police Officers Association has changed its allegiances when it comes to the Utah County attorney. A longtime backer of four-term incumbent Kay Bryson, the association this year is throwing its support behind one of Bryson's challengers, Jeff Buhman. "It is time for a change in the administration of the County Attorney's Office," association President Hiatt Bean wrote in a prepared statement. "We are alarmed at the extremely high rate of lenient plea agreements reached between the current administration and offenders of serious crimes." The association said Buhman is the candidate who will rebuild relationships with police officers and deputies and aggressively prosecute drug and violent crimes. Buhman, one of Bryson's deputy attorneys, said he was honored by the support. Bryson didn't immediately return a phone message Monday seeking comment. Curtis Larson, also a deputy Utah County attorney, is challenging for the office as well. Larson ran against Bryson in 2002. Bryson, Buhman and Larson are all Republicans. - Todd Hollingshead
