The Lieutenant Governor's Office notified Johnson last week that a challenge of her residency had expired before elections staff reached a decision, so her campaign could go on. State law requires a response within 48 hours.
"I'm just excited to continue running," said Johnson, who maintains she has lived in the district for eight months. State law requires six months' residency. "It was a little, tiny hiccup."
Johnson is one of five Democrats running for House District 25 representing parts of Sugar House, Holladay and Summit County.
Romero, a Democrat, is running for a spot in the state Senate. On March 22, the Democratic Party's Legislative chair for that district, Adam Bass, sent a letter to Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swenson questioning Johnson's residency. By the time election officials started reviewing the matter, it was too late.
