BOISE, Idaho - The Federal Aviation Administration's proposal to move an air traffic control system from Boise to Salt Lake City to save money is like ''cutting off a plane's wings to save weight,'' Boise Mayor Dave Bieter says. The FAA wants to move the Terminal Radar Approach Control system out of Boise to save $5 million on the price of building a new tower for the Boise Airport. Greg Martin, a spokesman for the FAA based in Washington, D.C., said Monday that no decision has been made. He said representatives from the FAA are scheduled to be in Boise on Thursday to update airport administrators. The FAA released an internal study in late 2005 that showed the Boise Airport was one of 15 facilities that could have the control system moved elsewhere this year.
