TAYLORSVILLE - City officials will seek $4.3 million in ZAP funds from Salt Lake County to build a new baseball complex in the upper portion of Vista Park. The selected property, near 5000 South and 2200 West, is currently owned by the county and city. It abuts existing youth-baseball facilities. Four additional state-of-the-art fields would be added to the upper level, along with a "wall of fame" and additional parking to ease the congestion that occurs on adjacent neighborhood streets during games. "It gives us the ability to petition for regional, national and world-series types of events, which will be a boon to the city," said Administrative Services Director John Inch Morgan. The walking path and open space at Vista Park - built over the old Murray landfill - would remain intact, Morgan said. Some of the existing youth baseball fields would get upgrades as well. The city plans to submit the detailed grant request by the county's Feb. 3 deadline. - Cathy McKitrick
