Parties interested in funding recreation projects in Salt Lake County through the newly reauthorized Zoo, Arts and Parks tax program have one month to submit applications. The deadline: Feb. 3 at noon. In 2004, voters overwhelmingly approved ZAP for a new 10-year period beginning Jan. 1, 2007. The recreation portion of the revenue is estimated at $30 million over the 10-year life. Salt Lake County is encouraging municipalities, agencies, organizations and interested groups to apply. Proposals will be reviewed by the ZAP Recreation Advisory Board in late winter and early spring, followed by applicant presentations. Final selection will be made by the County Council in June. For information on the process, timeline and application format, call Julie Peck-Dabling at 468-2937 or by e-mail at jpeck-dabling@slco.org. Instructions also may be found on the county's Web site, www.slco.org. - Derek P. Jensen
