KAYSVILLE - Residents allowed themselves 30 minutes Tuesday to celebrate the induction of the first woman to serve as mayor of their Davis County city.

That was exactly how much time was left between the official swearing-in of new Mayor Neka Roundy - along with City Council members Lynn Galbraith and Gil Miller - and the start of the regularly scheduled council meeting.

Tuesday's festivities - which included refreshments, performances by the award-winning Kaysville High School Marching Band and 2nd District Judge Rodney Page offering the oaths - also were a first for this city of 22,000.

"I wanted to involve as many people as I possibly could," Roundy said. "It is especially important for the youth of our city to see the continuation of the political process."

Outgoing Councilman John McCleary, who helped organize the event, said the refreshments were paid for by private donations.

"This marks a whole new change for our city," he said. "And this is, hopefully, a new tradition to go with it."
