Utah Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett on Wednesday announced the appointments of Andrew Shepherd, of West Jordan, and Ivayla Ivanova, of Midvale, as the Utah delegates to the 44th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C. Shepherd is student-body president at Copper Hills High School. Ivanova is political club president and Future Business Leaders of America officer at Academy for Math, Engineering and Science. The student leaders will be in Washington, D.C., from March 4-11, to study the federal government and, in particular, the U.S. Senate. In past years, delegates have met with leading cabinet members, a Supreme Court justice and several key congressional policy makers. Each of the 104 delegates will receive a $5,000 college scholarship from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. - Elisabeth Nardi
