WASHINGTON - President Bush signed legislation Tuesday enabling the state to transfer the ownership of Minersville State Park to Beaver County. The park is a popular boating, fishing and camping location on Minersville Reservoir in southwestern Utah. The state has managed the park for more than 40 years, adding campgrounds and other facilities before agreeing in 2002 to transfer the management to the county. But the state found it was prohibited from doing so because of restrictions in place from when the land was acquired from the Bureau of Land Management. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch and Rep. Chris Cannon, would enable the state to make the transfer and also give Beaver County the authority to sell part of the land for cabin sites in order to fund maintenance of the park. -Robert Gehrke
