A motorist with a cell phone and the quick work of a Utah Highway Patrol Trooper were combined Sunday night to arrest two people suspected of a multi-county shooting spree. Officers received reports of a man and a woman in a dark-colored pickup shooting out the windows of other cars on the road while driving north on Interstate 15 and then east along I-70, said Trooper Jason Haywood. Seven such reports were filed throughout Beaver, Iron, Millard and Sevier counties by Monday night. A gas theft was also reported in Beaver by a couple matching the description of the people driving the truck, Haywood said. But around 8:15 p.m., the couple's luck ran out when they allegedly chose to fire at a Chevy Tahoe whose driver called 911 and chased the truck. Haywood was nearby when the call was placed and was able to pull the suspects over without incident. A 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both of Colorado, were booked into the Sevier County jail on the suspicion of aggravated assault, Haywood said. - Michael N. Westley
