The quality-growth organization is expected to announce that Jerry Stevenson will take over as its primary ambassador during a luncheon today for the Coalition for Utah's Future Common Good Awards.
Stevenson, the fifth Envision Utah chairman, is taking over for KSL-TV and Radio President Bruce Christensen, who has finished his two-year tenure.
In this voluntary position, Stevenson wants to focus on explaining the growth strategies supported by Envision Utah to newly elected city council members and mayors.
"I think I can contribute where the rubber meets the road," said Stevenson. "[We need to] go back and focus on re-educating the new people who come in."
He will also function as a fund raiser for the nonprofit organization.
Envision Utah offers suggestions and assistance to cities and counties interested in molding the growth within its boundaries.
Stevenson participated in Envision Utah meetings through his position as Layton's mayor for the past 12 years and said he was impressed with how the organization can break through the traditional urban/rural, Democrat/Republican divides.
"There is something in it for everyone," Stevenson said.
His tenure as mayor ends in January, after which Stevenson plans to continue his work with one of his family's businesses, Great Basin Turf Products. He will also remain a member of Weber State University's board of trustees.
