The Summit County Attorney's Office is looking into allegations a teacher in the North Summit School District inappropriately touched a high school student in October. Kent Rushton, 40, was arrested Oct. 14 and booked into the Summit County Jail on suspicion of lewdness involving a child. He bailed out later that day. On Oct. 12, Rushton was suspended from the school district with pay. The school district has finished an internal investigation, and North Summit School District Superintendent Steve Carlsen expects a decision as to Rushton's future with the district would be made next week. Rushton taught band at North Summit High School as well as subjects in the seventh and eighth grades, Carlsen said. Rushton, who was a well-liked teacher, was in his third year with the school district, Carlsen said. Rushton had helped the district's band program "take significant steps," the superintendent said. The incident occurred at school, Carlsen said. - Justin Hill
