Springville Mayor E. Fritz Boyer no longer is seeking re-election this year. Boyer originally filed thinking no one else was running, but withdrew after he learned two other candidates - Gene Mangum and Christine Tolman - filed just before the deadline. The mayor was out of town Thursday and unavailable for comment. "He feels good about supporting those candidates," said Hazel Dunsmore, executive assistant for Springville. Other withdrawals before Tuesday's primary have changed election races in south Utah County cities. James Brady no longer is seeking one of two open seats on the Mapleton City Council because he has been appointed to the council. Brady filed to run, but was appointed this week to take the place of Councilman Ryan Parham. Parham moved to Arizona and resigned from the council. In Payson, incumbent Councilwoman Colleen Jacobsen has pulled out of the council race after being offered a position in the city. - Todd Hollingshead
