CENTRAL VALLEY - Residents in this central Utah community will make history in October when they vote for town officials for the first time.

Candidates will be pared down in the Oct. 4 primary election, with winners moving on to the Nov. 8 general election.

Since the town's incorporation in April, appointed officials have been working to prepare for electing a mayor, two council members for four-year terms and three council members for two-year terms.

Norm Bowden, named mayor when the community of 300 was incorporated, is not seeking election to the post. Three people will be on the ballot for the four-year position: Dwayne P. Bayles, Pat Meanea and Marvin Kim Peterson.

Seeking the two-year council positions are Charles Billingley, Brenda Cropper, David P. Jensen, Cameron Peterson and Chris Thompson. Three candidates will be elected. Seeking the four-year council posts are Charles H. Evans, Wayne Gifford and David Nielson. Two candidates will be elected for this office. Nielson, Evans, Peterson and Cropper are incumbents.

The area's official name was changed from Central to Central Valley several years ago after residents petitioned state officials.
