Utah Congressman Chris Cannon on Sept. 12 will discuss ethics in government during a lecture at Utah Valley State College. The program begins at 11 a.m. in the library on UVSC's Orem campus. The event is free and open to the public. Cannon will answer questions following his talk. Elaine Englehardt, UVSC's federal liaison, said the school invites lawmakers to visit the school each year and meet with students, faculty, staff and the administration. Cannon, who represents the state's 3rd District, has taken a special interest in UVSC, Englehardt said in a statement. The congressman has proposed legislation aimed at bolstering UVSC's academic programs and he has a keen interest in statewide job creation and economic development, she said. Cannon was re-elected for a fifth term in 2004. He serves on the Government Reform, Judiciary and Resources committees. Along with his committee work, Cannon is a member of the Steel Caucus and chairman of the Western Caucus - a group of 55 House members. - Shinika A. Sykes
