WASHINGTON - Utah's Dixie will get nearly $4 million in additional emergency federal funds to help replace roads and bridges ravaged by floods this spring, the Federal Highway Administration announced Tuesday. The $3.7 million will be filtered through the Utah Department of Transportation and go toward work on State Routes 18 and 8 and local roads in Santa Clara - areas hard hit by the spring floods. "That will definitely be of help," said Washington County Commissioner Alan Gardner. The funding is part of $80 million doled out nationwide to communities damaged by flooding. "These funds help residents rebuild their communities and resume their lives after tragic events knock out roads and bridges," said Department of Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta. Work is already under way to replace and fix damaged roads and bridges in Washington County. - Thomas Burr
