A candidate for a Salt Lake City Council race is withdrawing her candidacy. Deedra Hansen Lambert said she now is backing Soren Simonsen, an architect who wants to represent District 7 (Sugar House). "It doesn't make sense to have two people in the race that have the same ideas and the same goals and split our neighborhood," Lambert said Wednesday, noting she and Simonsen live four blocks from each other. "I would rather have the neighborhood solidly behind me. I didn't know if that was going to happen." Lambert said she decided to step aside - instead of asking Sorensen to - because "timing-wise" it was better for her to bow out. Lambert had the endorsement of Mayor Rocky Anderson. This is the second time one of Anderson's endorsees has dropped out. He backed Jane Marquardt in District 3 (Avenues and Capitol Hill), but she later opted not to run. - Heather May
