Adam Leffler is taking on West Valley City Mayor Dennis Nordfelt, but don't expect to see his campaign signs in his neighborhood. Same goes for the incumbent.

Turns out, Leffler and Nordfelt live thee blocks from each other and attend the same LDS ward. So, to avoid polarizing their ward and neighborhood, the two candidates have agreed to nix campaign signs close to home.

The truce extends from 4100 South to 4400 South between 4000 West and 4500 West.

"We'll do the heavy campaigning elsewhere," Nordfelt said Monday.

The 62-year-old mayor plans to capitalize on his experience as police chief for 12 years, Olympic coordinator for four and mayor since 2002. If re-elected, he plans to focus on city beautification and infrastructure improvements.

Leffler, a 34-year-old real-estate coach and investor, wants to improve the city's reputation by beefing up public safety and developing an incubator program for start-up businesses.

"Things have declined that really need to be improved. I feel I need to raise my voice and assert some change," Leffler said. "I have a lot of respect for him [Nordfelt] as a person. But this spring I decided he's winding down. I'm just getting started and can bring a fresh vision."
