The city had sought $900,000 in matching funds from the LeRay McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund for putting in a trail head and other amenities on 50 acres bordering a cemetery and a housing development.
That property is inside Salt Lake City's boundaries and is part of a legal spat between the two cities on how best to preserve what is considered to be one of the last undeveloped portions of the ancient Lake Bonneville shoreline.
One of the reasons the application failed to qualify for McAllister funding is that North Salt Lake officials did not provide an appraisal of the property, which they claim to be worth millions. Salt Lake City has zoned the property as natural open space and values it at about $350,000.
