Bush declares flood disaster

President Bush has declared that the spring flooding in various Utah counties constitutes a "major disaster." That declaration allows state and local governments to apply for funds to improve roads, various structures and utilities that were damaged in floods from April 28 to June 29. Affected counties are Beaver, Box Elder, Iron, Kane, Sevier, Tooele, Uintah and Wasatch, as well as Uintah and Ouray Indian reservations. Flooding earlier this year in Washington and Iron counties already had been declared a disaster. Ed Conley, Denver-based spokesman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said officials won't know how much cash is forthcoming from the feds until all applications are in and requests have been judged eligible for reimbursement.
