Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr. has appointed Paul Iwasaki, a Salt Lake City Justice Court judge, to serve on the 2nd District Juvenile Court.

Lawmakers created a new position for the court, which covers Weber, Davis and Morgan counties, earlier this year to handle growing caseloads.

Iwasaki also has served as an administrative law judge for the Utah State Tax Commission and the Utah Department of Employment Security. He has worked as a state assistant attorney general, a deputy Salt Lake County attorney, and a police officer in the Salt Lake City Police Department.

His appointment now goes to the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee. If voted out of the committee, Iwasaki will go before the full Senate for confirmation.
