Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey has named the Public Services Director Dave Harmer as the city's interim director of community and economic development.

Harmer, who served as executive director of the state Department of Community and Economic Development under former Gov. Mike Leavitt, is excited about the chance to "develop a strong and vibrant future for Ogden," according to a statement the city released Friday.

City Council members must sign off on Godfrey's choice before Harmer's new position becomes permanent. Harmer has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Brigham Young University, a master's degree from the University of Utah and graduated from the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
