WASHINGTON - Utah will get more than $1 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to protect "critical infrastructure and key resource sites" as part of a nationwide effort to create buffers for vulnerable areas. State officials will manage the grant of $1.03 million, meant to develop protection measures that would make it more difficult for terrorists to conduct surveillance or launch attacks against critical infrastructure, which may include financial buildings, dams, water resources, national monuments or high-profile icons. -Thomas Burr
