Salt Lake County has tapped former Gov. Scott Matheson's development director to help drive economic development in the state's most populous county. Dale Carpenter, who also spent seven years as a college instructor, will begin work as the county's economic development chief April 18. He will earn $93,800. "He has a wealth of experience and the drive we need for our economic game plan to succeed," Mayor Peter Corroon said in a written statement. Carpenter, who also worked in the private sector, will be tasked with retaining and attracting business and industry to Salt Lake County.
