Sales taxes in Tooele city and Weber County went up Friday.
In November, voters in each approved a small bump in the sales tax - 1 cent on every $10 of sales - to fund arts, culture, recreation and parks programs.
In Tooele, the tax is called the PAR tax for Parks, Arts and Recreation. It's expected to raise $300,000 for such things as parks, playgrounds, sports fields and the Tooele Arts Festival.
Weber County's new tax is called RAMP, and is expected to raise $3 million per year for recreation, arts, museums and parks. A new citizens panel will distribute the county's share of the money, and the cities of Weber County also will get a cut.
The tax increases bring Tooele city's and Weber County's retail sales tax rates to 6.6 percent today.
