Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. told legislative leaders on Thursday that the special session planned this month will likely turn into a two-day affair.

Huntsman said he is planning to start the session - dedicated to dealing with the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) education reform law - on April 19 and extend it into the next day, according to Michael Mower, the governor's legislative liaison.

Huntsman, Senate President John Valentine and House Speaker Greg Curtis also whittled down the potential list of bills for the session's agenda, Mower said, but he declined to give specifics.

Some lawmakers have petitioned Huntsman to put more than 12 items on the agenda, but the governor has said he wants to keep the focus on NCLB and add only legislation that is noncontroversial.
