Police were investigating Wednesday night a large explosion in a Pleasant Grove neighborhood earlier in the day. According to Pleasant Grove police, a 105 Howitzer round, which is consistent with what the Utah Department of Transportation uses for avalanche control, was found at the scene of the explosion. The incident occurred about 3 p.m. at the 1600 East block of 500 South. Nobody was injured in the explosion, which did cause some property damage. Police were not releasing any more information Wednesday night. Brent Wilhite, a UDOT spokesman, said UDOT is also investigating the incident. UDOT was conducting avalanche control in Provo Canyon Wednesday near Slide Canyon on the north side and Bridal Veil Falls on the south side, said Wilhite. But, he said "it's quite a distance" to Pleasant Grove. - Justin Hill
