Peter Corroon wants to meet more people from Salt Lake County - and practice his Spanish. The county mayor can accomplish both on Wednesday during an open-house meeting set up for Spanish-speaking residents. "We'll see if these [Spanish] skills work in a political-social setting," Corroon said in a news release. Last month, the mayor's office conducted its first citizen open house, where residents were invited to discuss with the mayor any issue they wanted. Those meetings will continue every third Thursday at the Salt Lake County Government Center at 2001 S. State St. Corroon learned Spanish in school and while living in Spain. In his private law practice, the mayor offered pro bono legal counsel to Spanish-speaking clients in Salt Lake City. The Spanish open house is Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Mayor's Office, Room 2100 of the county government center. Members of the county's Hispanic-Latino task force will be on hand to welcome people. - Derek P. Jensen
