Normally, Utah lawmakers refuse to loosen the state's liquor laws for anyone. But if it helps Hill Air Force Base, legislators apparently will relax their scruples.

House members on Monday signed off on Senate Bill 65, which allows Hill employees to buy alcohol at the base commissary and carry it off base - a practice currently prohibited by state law.

Layton Republican Rep. Stuart Adams claimed the legislation would boost the Davis County military installation's chances in the next round of military base closures.

The legislation also would block Utahns under 21 years of age from going into liquor stores or package agencies without a parent or spouse. House members voted 47-21 to send the bill to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.
