House members rescued legislation governing public and charter-school uniforms Friday. House Bill 129 would allow schools to grant exemptions for religious beliefs, provide used or discounted uniforms for low-income students and set up criteria for a parent petition drive and election to adopt school uniforms. Critics say the change in law is not necessary. Representatives rejected the bill Thursday, but reconsidered and sent the legislation to the Senate with a vote of 45-25. - Rebecca Walsh
