The Utah Legislature has voted to ban the use of minimotorcycles - often referred to as pocket bikes - on any public property, including roads and sidewalks. Lawmakers say the minibikes are dangerous because they are so low to the ground other drivers cannot see them. Police testified that they are not registered vehicles and not inspected yet the bikes often share the road with cars and trucks. House Bill 159 received overwhelming support in the Senate on Thursday. It already has passed the House and now goes to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. for his signature. HB159 also forbids children under 8 from operating a motor scooter on public property. - Thomas Burr
