Businesses that use A-frame style signs placed on sidewalks to attract customers to nearby retailers are no longer running afoul of Salt Lake City regulations.
The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved removal of a provision in the city's zoning code that eliminated the use of the signs. Although apparently not enforced, the signs have been prohibited since November.
The council, however, is not finished with the signs.
The seven-member council plans to add provisions that would require the signs be placed on streets contiguous to their business. They also may dictate how far the signs can be from a corresponding storefront.
"Right now, [the signs] can go anywhere," Councilwoman Nancy Saxton said.
