To celebrate the enactment of the international Kyoto Protocol - which the United States hasn't joined but Salt Lake City did - Mayor Rocky Anderson will encourage residents to help end global warming.
He will scoop free ice cream at Ben & Jerry's at The Gateway at 11 a.m. to those who pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by driving less, recycling more, or by conserving energy. The "Lick Global Warming" event will last until 6 p.m. Anderson also will hand out free fluorescent light bulbs donated by Utah Power.
Ben & Jerry's created the "Lick Global Warming" campaign.
Anderson committed the city to reduce the city's emissions by 7 percent by 2012. He believes the city can meet the goal this year.
