Utah lawmakers are one step closer to creating a 12-member task force to review changes to the state's open-records laws. House Bill 75, which passed out of a Senate committee on Monday, would create a panel to look at whether some classifications in the state's Government Records and Management Act should be modified and whether a government agency can provide confidential data under a privacy agreement. The task force would also look into whether a computer database of records that a government agency typically sells or leases should be covered under the open-records law. Rep. Doug Aagard, R-Kaysville, told the Senate Government and Political Subdivisions Committee that the classification of e-mails would also be covered by the task force. - Thomas Burr
