The Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to add a new judge to the state's 4th District Court, but Senate Bill 131 could face a challenge in the House. House Speaker Greg Curtis, R-Sandy, has mentioned new judges as something that could be postponed to give the Legislature more money to spend on such things as transportation and public employee salary increases. Sponsoring Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, said adding a judge to the 12 others in the 4th District, which serves Utah County, is the highest priority for the state's judicial branch. - Matt Canham
