State. Sen. Paula Julander, D-Salt Lake City, was hospitalized Saturday because of complications resulting from diverticulitis, an internal inflammation. "She's doing OK and she'll be back as soon as she can," her husband, Rod Julander, said Sunday. Paula Julander was absent from the Senate on Friday, the same day Senate Minority Leader Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, returned following surgery to remove a portion of his lung. Doctors don't know yet whether Paula Julander may require surgery, said her spouse. But he added that the senator is hoping to return to the Legislature within a matter of days. Julander, a six-year member of the Senate, is a retired nurse most widely known for pushing legislation - so far unsuccessfully - to require insurance companies with prescription plans to cover contraceptives. - Dan Harrie
