Sixty potential jurors filled out questionnaires Friday in preparation for former Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman's trial on charges of misusing public funds.

The jurors will return to 3rd District Court on Tuesday for further questioning and jury selection. Opening statements in the seven-day trial are scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Potential jurors were asked to answer 83 questions, but only a handful of queries dealt with pre-trial publicity. They were asked whether they had heard of the Workman case, where they heard about it and how much they recalled.

Pool members also were asked whether they voted in the last general election, if they knew the identity of the current county mayor and if they believe well-known people are treated better by the court system than others.

Workman is charged with one count each of second- and third-degree felony misuse of public funds. The charges allege Workman took $17,000 in health department funds to place two employees at the South Valley Boys and Girls Club, where the mayor's daughter was chief financial officer.

Workman has said that her intention was to assist the club and "help the kids." Her attorneys claim that while rules and procedures may have been skirted, no crimes occurred.
