The House welcomed a new lawmaker Thursday, as Rep. Larry Wiley, D-West Valley City, was appointed to replace outgoing Rep. Ty McCartney, D-Salt Lake City.

Democratic delegates elected Wiley on Wednesday night and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. made it official in a quick ceremony hours later.

Wiley, 54, Salt Lake City's supervisor of building services, replaces McCartney.

McCartney is leaving to manage the city's Police Civilian Review Board. McCartney was starting his third term.

The new House member told the House Democratic Caucus that his goal is to help revitalize his district.
