GOP caucus approves post-flood loan plan

The House Republican caucus approved a plan Thursday to provide Washington County with a $25 million loan to help shore up the drastically expanded banks of the Virgin and Santa Clara rivers.

The caucus approved a plan that would provide the loan at 2 percent interest for a year with the expectation that the county would most likely pay that money back with federal disaster aid.

House Budget Chairman Ron Bigelow, R-West Valley City, is drafting a bill that would authorize Utah to hand over $25 million from the state's surplus.
