Utah County prosecutors say the charge, when the boy is arraigned next week, will be aggravated robbery.
Stabbing victim Farrell Jenkins said he hopes to be at that hearing. The 22-year-old Orem man - a member of the store's "loss-prevention" department - was assaulted after he confronted the teenager, who allegedly was attempting to steal a portable DVD player.
Jenkins has been in Timpanogos Regional Hospital since the Jan. 20 attack.
"I'm doing fabulous, really good," said Jenkins, who suffered numerous lacerations to his stomach and intestines when he was cut with the knife's serrated blade.
The day following the stabbing, Pleasant Grove police said they would ask prosecutors to file charges against the teen in adult court. But Utah County juvenile prosecutor Chris Yannelli said the evidence and juvenile law dictated his office's decision about where to file the initial charge. A judge may later transfer the case to adult court.
The boy's attorney, Dusty Kawai, said he hopes to keep the case in the juvenile system.
"All of his previous delinquency matters deal with just issues of a rambunctious child," Kawai said. "There is nothing drug-related and nothing violent in nature."
