A 14-year-old girl who told police she was attacked on Monday by two people was charged with filing a false report after detectives discovered the incident did not occur. The girl told Salt Lake City police two people followed her, stole her purse and then sexually and physically assaulted her in the 960 East block of Sugarmont Drive (2225 South) about 4 p.m. Monday. She was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center, where detectives interviewed her and determined her story was false.
3 family members charged in beating of ex-boyfriend
Two men were charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court for allegedly assaulting the ex-boyfriend of one of their relatives in August, according to court records. The ex-girlfriend, her brother and her brother-in-law were each charged with a first-degree felony and two second-degree felonies. According to court documents, the ex-girlfriend asked her relatives to beat up her ex-boyfriend and drove them to a home on the 3400 South block of Patrick Drive (7320 West) in Magna. The men pushed their way into the home, where they kicked the ex-boyfriend and beat him with a chair. The ex-girlfriend's brother and brother-in-law said they beat the man because he had harmed their sister.
Guns, drugs recovered from alleged weapons dealer
The Salt Lake City Police narcotics squad has recovered 19 guns police believed to have been stolen by a 33-year-old man police arrested. Officers have arrested Thanh Nguyen, AKA Asian Bobby, who police say has been dealing drugs and weapons. Officers searched a home in the 200 East block of Herbert Ave. (1052 South), where they recovered 15 guns, including an SKS assault rifle, about 1,000 rounds of ammunition and distributable amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana, said Sgt. Ryan Atack. Quinn Schoenfield, 47, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to distribute. Officers also have recovered four other guns, Atack said.
2 parolees accused of taking guns from homeowner
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested two men Wednesday after police say they forced an elderly man into his home at gunpoint and stole at least three guns in the Olympus Cove area. The two men, who are on federal parole for firearms violations, were breaking into vehicles about 6 to 7 a.m. when the elderly man came outside to get his newspaper, said Salt Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Keith Stephens. The man suffered a small cut and some bruising, Stephens said. Police were trying to determine whether other items were stolen.
