Nuclear testing

* Matheson: Has introduced legislation to block resumption of nuclear testing at Nevada Test Site. Does not support funding the study of Bush's proposed ''bunker-buster'' or ''mini-nukes.''

* Swallow: Backs Republican Sen. Bob Bennett's legislation that mirrors Matheson's. Says new nuclear weapons should be studied, but can be tested in computer models.

No Child Left Behind

* Matheson: Has drafted legislation to change requirements for "highly qualified" teachers to ease strain on rural schools.

* Swallow: Says education decisions should be left to local leaders. Would dump the federal mandates entirely.

Taxes

* Matheson: Voted for all five Bush tax cuts and voted to make the $1,000 child deduction permanent.

* Swallow: Would make all the Bush tax cuts permanent.

Public lands

* Matheson: Says science should drive environmental policy. Notes that 85 percent of all public lands in Utah are open to oil and gas leases now.

* Swallow: Would open up more of Utah's national forests and wilderness acres to exploration for fossil fuels to fund education.
