Utah National Guardsman Alan Rogers' body on Tuesday night is carried to a hearse by an honor guard comprised of other Utah guardsmen at the Salt Lake City Airport. Staff Sgt. Rogers of Kearns was a member of an Apache attack helicopter unit stationed in Afghanistan. He died Thursday of noncombat injuries, the Pentagon said. Rogers, 49, served in the Guard for the past 20 years and was a refueler with the 211th Aviation Battalion. He is the first Utahn to die in Afghanistan, and the first Utah National Guard soldier to die in an overseas war zone since the Berlin Crisis in 1962. A family statement called him "a good husband and father. He loved the military, his country and his family." The family wishes to grieve in peace.
